Public Meeting Nov. 20th

Summary of recent events and the November 20, 2014, public meeting

In response to a survey sent in September 2014, 78% of 310 polled families responded that they were strongly interested in a French-English bilingual program.

On November 20, 2014 we organized a public meeting on this topic with the following speakers:
– Mme Sylvie Christophe, Cultural Attachée of the General Consulate of France in Houston;
– Dr. Fabrice Jaumont, Education Attaché to the French Embassy in the United States, author of “The Bilingual Revolution;”
– Dane Roberts, Assistant Principal of MCLIMS in Houston (Mandarin Chinese Language Immersion Magnet School) who presented “MCLIMS, a full Immersion Program Experience in HISD.”
The speakers explained why and how Houston should follow the initiatives of many other cities across the US that have developed a total of 135 bilingual French-English immersion programs in their public school systems.
Mr. Daniel Gohl, HISD Chief Academic Officer, — responsible for the academic growth of nearly 210,000 students and the management and success of almost 300 schools — and Mr. Cesar Carillo attended the meeting and showed great interest and support for this initiative.  They also responded to many questions from the audience.

To get this program approved by HISD Board, we need to record and submit by March of 2015 the names of 600 candidate students who are ready to apply to the Program in PreK, Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades for the school year 2016-2017.
